SPD Organizational Chart

The Skagway Police Department is organized into three basic component areas of function; administration/command, patrol, and police dispatchers/clerk.

Administraion/Command

Chief of Police –exercises command over all personnel, division, and organizational components and subdivisions assigned to the police department. The chief is responsible for the management, direction, and control of the operations, fiscal management, budgeting, auditing, and administration of the department.  The chief’s duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Inventory and evidence control, crime analysis
Development of short and long-term plans
Development and issuance of department policies.
Supervision, evaluation, promotion and discipline of personnel
Civilian law enforcement, and planning and command for disasters/unusual occurrences Patrol Duties, Traffic Control/ Investigation and Juvenile Operations

Sergeant – Reports directly to the Chief of Police and during periods when the chief of police is absent from the police department on city business or leave, the sergeant shall be in charge of the police department. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Supervision and Evaluation of Personnel
Preparation and Review of Department Reports and Records
Supervision of Juvenile Records- Including Collection, Retention and Dissemination
Organized Vice and Crime Control
Internal Affairs Investigation
Control of Informant and Intelligence Files
Patrol Duties, Traffic Control/ Investigation and Juvenile Operations

 

Patrol

Police Officer – reports to the Sergeant and Chief of Police.  General police officer duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Patrol Duties and Juvenile Operations
Traffic Control and Investigation
Investigate crimes
Jail and Prisoner Operations
Animal Control/Bicycle Control
Preparation and Processing of Agency Reports
Firearms Officer Appointment
Evidence Custodian Appointment
Field Training Officer Appointment
Breath Test Supervisor Appointment

Community Service Officer – reports directly to Sergeant. General duties include, but are not limited to:
Downtown Patrol Duties
Parking enforcement
Animal Control
Community Assistance
Dispatch and Clerical Duties

 

Police Dispatchers/Clerks

Police dispatcher/clerk – reports directly to Sergeant. General duties include, but are not limited to:
Office and Clerical Duties
Accept Payments for Department
Services Uniform Crime Reports
Entry and Maintenance of Records
Process Infractions and Citations
State licensing
Municipal licensing
Dispatch services for all municipal and other mutual aid departments
