Communications Division

The Skagway Police Department communication division has on each shift a properly trained and equipped Emergency Medical Dispatcher to handle any emergency requiring a medical, police, search/rescue, or fire response. The communication division services the Skagway Police Department, Skagway Fire/Rescue Department, State Department of Transportation, and National Park Service.

Dispatcher responsibilities include; communicating on multiple radio channels, answering phone calls on a multi-line phone system, and answering 9-1-1 calls for the Skagway area. Each dispatcher has full access to the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (ASPIN) computer system with links to the other states, Federal Agencies and Canada. This system as well as Department files provide assistance in criminal investigations and maintain person and property files.

This division also functions as an office for the State Department of Motor Vehicles, with office hours M-F (9am – 7pm).

Your Skagway Police Department Communication Center dedicates itself in providing the highest quality service and is committed to ensure the prompt dispatch of the Public Safety Responder in your time of need.

  • When calling 9-1-1 do your best to stay calm and answer all questions.
  • Staying calm can be one of the most difficult, yet most important, things that you do when calling 9-1-1
