Bicycle Registration Program

 

The Skagway Police Department is implementing a bicycle registration program.  Bicycle owners can fill out the Bicycle Registration Form and turn it into the Skagway Police Department.  Once you turn in the completed registration, a registration sticker with a permit number is then issued so you can place it on the bike.

We enter the information from the form into our computer database and it is stored until needed.  When or if a bicycle is found or recovered, the Skagway Police Department can use the information from the recovered bicycle to match it up with the owner’s information stored in the computer. The recovered bicycle is then returned to the rightful owner.

No program guarantees a 100% recovery rate.  The Skagway Police Department does not guarantee that your bicycle will be recovered by filling out and submitting this form.


This is just one tool used to help owners recover their property.   Owners should also keep a copy of this information for their own records.  The Skagway Police Department encourages people to use bike locks to deter theft of bicycles.

 

Please Note:

Lamps and Other Equipment on Bicycles.
1. Every bicycle, when in use during the hours of darkness, shall be equipped with a lamp on the front which shall emit a white light visible from a distance of at least
two hundred (200) feet to the front and with a reflector on the rear which shall
emit a red light visible from a distance of at least fifty feet (50') to the rear.
2. Every bicycle shall be equipped with a brake which will enable the operator to
make the braked wheel skid on dry, level, clean pavement. SMC 10.02.040
