new The Alaska Dept of Fish & Game warns that bears are emerging from hibernation. Here is a link to their website that provides information on 'Bears and Food.'

The Skagway Police Department is reminding everyone to have proper storage containers in place just in case bears should visit your area. Last year, we had a mother and her three cubs roaming the streets, campgrounds, and broke into several homes. The sow had to be put down and one of the cubs was trasnported to another area by Fish and Game. Please notify us when you do see any bears in your neighborhood.

The following information is taken from SMC 08.04.035 about storage containers and violations.  To view the entire municipal code click here → SMC 08.04.035
