Animal & Pet Control

The Municipality of Skagway has adopted general and permanent ordinances that pertain to Animals. We have provided links to the chapters to each section for you to peruse. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Skagway Police Department at your convenience.

Dog Licenses

Dog licenses are due January 1 of each calendar year and are available at the Skagway Police Department.

Control of dogs is required by leash for all areas West of the railroad tracks and South of the bridge at 23rd Avenue and East of the Skagway River and 7-pastures.

Control of dogs by voice command may be used for areas East of the railroad tracks and North of the bridge at 23rd Avenue and West of the Skagway River and the Yakutania Point Trail System except those areas noted above.

Fees for Animals

Animals Running at Large

 
First offense for an unlicensed animal $  50.00
First offense for a licensed animal $  15.00
Second offense $  60.00
Third and each subsequent offense $ 100.00
   
Impound Fee $ 10.00
Care and Feeding Fees  
Cost per day per dog or small animal $   6.00
Cost per day per livestock animal

$  18.00

Veterinary Care  
Actual costs for veterinary care incurred by the Municipality  
   
Annual Dog License Fees  
Neutered male or spayed female $    8.00
Unneutered male/unsprayed female $   12.00
Lost license tag replacement fee $     1.00
